Proposal

I have just received the news that Mr. Darcy has proposed to marry my daughter, Elizabeth. At first thought, I was rather perplexed. When I was in Darcy's presence, it was rather obvious that he had no interest in Lizzy. But now, as I hear about his proposal and Lizzy's rejection, I feel as if she has passed up a promising opportunity. Darcy is a worthy gentleman for Lizzy. He is wealthy and attractive. It is urgent that I speak with Lizzy.

  1. No need to speak with me about it mother, i have made up my mind. You only know half the story and if you were aware of the information I have found out, you would be on my side. I refuse to marry someone that is responsible for Jane's heartbreak. We may talk about what I have heard another time, but changing my mind will be quite difficult.

  2. Thank you for speaking so highly of me. I am extremely saddened by her refusal t marry me. I like to think of myself a an outright gentleman. Iwould love it if you woould be so kind as to talk to her on my behaf. I would also like her to know that it was not I who broke up Jane and my dearest friend Bingley.

  3. I am sorry to hear of this news, for now both of your daughters have been out of an opportunity at marriage. Many more fine gentlemen live near and my heart is still open and loving for the beautiful Jane Bennet.

  4. Mother, I know you care for me but I will not ever marry someone who, not only insults me, but my family as well. When I recived his letter, I did understand Mr. Darcy a little better. For me to be any where near accepting he will have to change if he ever wants me. I hope to be coming home soon.
